Openhand is my independent creative practice. I’m Nic Belor, a senior designer and fabricator. At heart I’m an artist, a tinkerer and a musician.

I work with people who care deeply about their business, their idea or what they want to put into the world. I bring curiosity, experience and a broad set of practical skills to help make it happen.

Based on the southern Gold Coast, Queensland.

An open hand.
A way of being.

An open hand is a sign of trust. It signals availability, offers support and makes room for connection. To me it also speaks to balance, grace, intention and love.

Hands tell us so much about each other and ourselves. They’ve been prominent in my illustrative work for the past 15 years. They carry the marks of making, the care of helping and the possibility of planting something that can grow.

Openhand carries those values into my practice. It’s about being open to people, supporting their ideas and making things that contribute to a community.

More than one way to make it

Openhand is a way to access the full breadth of what I do.

I can rebuild a motor, develop a circuit and PCB, paint an illustration, write and record music, mix a track or make a prototype on a 3D printer. That curiosity carries through everything I make.

For your project it might mean an identity, a product, a film, a sign or the systems that make a whole business feel considered. The starting point is understanding what it needs. The skills follow the idea.

Working directly with me

Start with what matters.

You don’t need to arrive with the answer or a list of deliverables. Bring the ambition, the problem or the thing you can’t stop thinking about.

Understand the idea.

I ask questions, listen and get close to what you’re trying to do. Your experience, constraints and ambitions give the work its direction.

Find the right approach.

I shape a response around your project and agree the scope with you. You’ll know what’s being made, why it matters and where to start.

Make it real.

I design, test and refine with the finished thing in mind. You work directly with me from the first conversation through to the making.
